Don't know if this will help you understand things better but... STP was not part of the Grunge movement. They kinda rode the coattails of the grunge explosion but are classified as an Alternative Rock band... not part of the Seattle grunge movement. Scott Weiland himself has (on record/video interviews) stated very clearly that STP is not and never was part of the Seattle Grunge movement/scene. They are from San Diego and were never in Seattle at all! lol!! Hope that helps clear things up a bit.😊 All that being said, whether it's labeled Classic rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Grunge or any one of the other sub-genre's within... it's all rock music and it's ALL incredible!!👊😁 Thanks for sharing your music journey with us. ZZ Top is so cool & fun live Texas boogie blues This singing in this song is a nod to John Lee Hooker.’s song “Boom Boom”. Deep rabbit hole of fun music.

Don't apolgize for being real. Music is subjective and ZZ Top is an acquired taste. La Grange was not the best choice to start with either if you have never heard of the band. Sharp Dressed Man or Legs might be better introduction songs if you feel like giving them another listen.

STP is one of my favorite bands. Scott is an amazing singer. Play the song Vasoline it's a little harder and awesome song. Everything STP plays is great, I really like their sound and the instrumentation is great as well. They were so big when they came out. ROCK

They have several other great songs .. I am the same with LaGrange .. Sharp Dressed Man , Give Me All Your Lovin , Legs , Tube Snake Boogie , Under Pressure , Tush , T.V. Dinners are many of my fav's out of ZZ Top . But the musicality of all their stuff is great The vocals can be hit or miss for many though .. It is what it is ...

Never apologize for your honest opinions. For me this is a summer cruising song, but I agree about the vocals on this one. I prefer old ZZ Top (from the 70s') over their more commercial hits of the 80's, but their vocals were deliberate for the song. Most times they're clearer and easier to understand. And as others said, they were Texas Blues-Rock. Check out Waiting for the Bus\Jesus Left Chicago, Tush, or I'm Bad I'm Nationwide... or their 80's stuff like Sharp Dressed Man, Give Me All Your Lovin', Legs

Stone Temple Pilots was my favorite band of the grunge era. Velvet Revolver was the best concert I ever attended. Scott Weiland is one of the best ever! Creep is a slow song. If you want something harder and faster then listen to Crackerman, Sex Type Thing or even Dead & Bloated or Wicked Garden. If you want Velvet Revolver go with Slither, She Builds Quick Machines, Come In Come On and my personal favorite Fall to Pieces (which is also a slower song).

Give the drummer some respect please as he's working his ass off and a double helping too

Just my opinion, but I think that the more one listens to ZZ Top, the more one likes ZZ Top.

In case you didn't catch it this is about a famous brothel in Texas that no longer exists but you paid 5 or 10 bucks and had yourself some thrills. The riff is based on John Lee Hooker's songs like Boogie Chillun and singer/guitarist Billy Gibbons is kind of playing up the strange vocals. You should hear some of their other songs as they are a samplers paradise with blue collar down to earth lyrics.

You must see Scott live. He was a gift.

You can still start a grunge band. Who knows , you could be the next STP.

You would definitely prefer their 80's stuff. When they got the Warner Bros contract they modernized their sound and made some cinema quality videos using Warner studios. The most famous beards in rock. Eliminator is a super cool album.

ZZ Top is a great band, but I don’t think I would have picked La Grange as the song to introduce a new listener to, unless they were already into blues music. Their 80’s music seems like a better starting point, then work backwards and forwards through the decades.

"Sex Type Thing" was the song that put STP on the map. It's also one of their heaviest! I think you'll dig it!

To be fair to you, this vocal delivery is not how Billy Gibbons normally sings, It was exaggerated for the purpose of the song. Don't give up on ZZ Top just yet, many other excellent songs that I think you will warm to, I'm sure. Cheers mate.

Scott Weiland was an incredibly talented guy but unfortunately, he was also a very troubled guy. another amazing musician lost to drug addiction. what a waste.

You're not going to upset anybody. Or at least you shouldn't upset anybody. People like what they like and they don't like what they don't. . The vocal line for this song is extremely stylized. There are a shitload of other songs by ZZ Top that I think you would probably love. Try the song Got Me Under Pressure. I can almost guarantee you'll dig that a lot more.

This is one my favorite STP songs! Scott’s voice and the band’s instrumentals are incredible! Unfortunately, Scott struggled with alcoholism and Cocaine addiction, which lead to his death from an accidental overdose when he was only 48. Because of his struggles, he was fired from STP and Velvet Revolver. He did finally get back with STP before he passed! Glad you reacted to STP! Loved it!!!
